How to style a shirt dress differently

Hi all

For the longest time,I have kept away from shirt dresses . The idea of a long oversized shirt with leggings never appealed to me . But I saw this one in a beautiful red and black check. I was looking for a shirt in this pattern for a long time

In my mind , I thought I will pick up the shirt dress , tuck it in and make it look like a shirt . I tried wearing this with leggings and I felt it was missing something.The recent runway shows inspired me a lot to try out kimonos or long flowy outerwear . So I just thought I should turn this dress into a cover up of sorts . I really love how this look turned out . Hope you like it
